Understanding and protecting against electrostatic discharge (ESD)
Static boom! If you understood that and you recognize this, then you're going to be laughing. Let's talk about static electricity. What does it do? Well, it causes damage to electronics. How many times have you walked through a house and touched something and it shocked you really bad, especially in the wintertime? All the time. very, very frequently. That is what we call electrostatic discharge, or ESD. If you touch an electronic component, that little shock could actually cause that electronic component to go bad and damage those devices. They're very sensitive to electric shock or static. Very similarly, when you go to a gas station and you get gas, notice that it says turn off cell phones and turn off the car and all of that while you're pumping gas, that's because electric static discharge from your clothes or from your body, touching a gas pump could ignite that gas and those vapors causing an explosion.
