Getting rid of clutter
- If you're at home or in your office, I want you to take a look around you. What do you notice? Take a look at all the horizontal surfaces. Can you see them? Are they visible? Or are most, or perhaps all your surfaces, covered with stuff? Paperwork, folders, sticky notes. This is clutter. And getting rid of clutter is one of the best ways to make your work environment more efficient. Now, for some people, this is a daunting task. But after this lesson, you'll be prepared to tackle it. If you're someone who really tends to accumulate clutter, I highly recommend that you take on this task over a weekend and with backup, a friend or a colleague. Also, however long you think it's going to take, double it. Two hours to clean out your office? That's not enough. Give yourself four hours instead. Okay, now look at your desk.
