- [Narrator] A resume is a one-page opportunity to market yourself to employers and it needs to count. These guidelines I'm about to share are flexible as there's no one way to craft a resume. The goal of a resume is to highlight your experience and accomplishments as a candidate to inform a hiring manager if you're a fit for a role. For starters, the design choices you make on a resume can help present a cohesive and consistent brand for you while helping you stand out. Avoid submitting a black and white resume in Times New Roman size 12 font as it's the easiest way to blend in. Don't reinvent the entire layout or overdo it with a bright purple resume, but making small intentional changes will make a difference. Consider turning your name into a logo at the top of the resume including a professional photo of yourself or having a simple border on the document.
