From the course: Generative AI in HR
Developing HR policies
- With so many factors shaping the future of work, HR leaders will need to design and implement policies that respond to the changing dynamic of who does the work and when, how and where the work gets done. However, ironically, according to Gardner, 43% of HR leaders have yet to develop an explicit future of work strategy. You need to have a future of work strategy so that you can develop and revise policies to meet the evolution of business and work. HR leaders will need to develop new or revised policies for a host of things, like remote, hybrid, and flexible work schedules, employee monitoring and productivity expectations, privacy, ethical, and responsible use of employee data, mitigating bias in AI recruitment outcomes, work-life balance and inclusive culture, upskilling, re-skilling, and out-skilling employees, working in the metaverse, digital nomad programs, and using Gen AI in the workplace. Here are five examples of how Gen AI can help. First, it can help by generating policies in clear, concise, and legally compliant language. Second, Gen AI can help you ensure that your existing policies are compliant. Third, ever wonder if your policies are competitive? Gen AI can benchmark your policies against competitors and industry trends and norms. Fourth, federal and state employment laws and regulations change frequently, and it can be challenging for HR leaders to keep pace with the change. Gen AI can help you check for compliance to ensure your policies reflect the latest legal requirements. And, the fifth way that Gen AI can help is by clearly and concisely generating policy update messages to employees using language that mirrors your organization's purpose, culture, and values, and resonates with employees. Don't be afraid to add in more context, scenarios, and examples in your prompts. The more you give, the better outcomes you'll receive. Using Gen AI to assist you in crafting relevant policies that align with your organization's culture, values, and strategic direction saves time, drives efficiency, and will feel like a superpower. But of course, we must not lose sight of the fact that your organization needs you. And while a tremendous help, Gen AI cannot replace the expertise of HR leaders or legal experts. Now that we've discussed what's possible, in the next video, we'll assess your organization's readiness for implementing Gen AI in the workplace.
