Integrate key game elements
I want you to think about your favorite game. It can be a board game, video game, app. It doesn't matter. Have your answer in mind? Perfect. Now, take a moment. What is it about that game that makes it your favorite? Is it the graphics? The sense of joy you get when you play? The story it tells? The truth is every game that we love has something that keeps bringing us back to play again. You can integrate game elements into your training activities that will keep learners coming back for more. With the right set of tools, you can pull out at a moment's notice, you'll be enhancing participation and developing a sense of achievement among your learners. Let's dive into what a game element is. Game elements are what turn a task into a game. These elements should have every player involved and result in an exciting experience that also accomplishes your training goals. Game elements can take your training activities from drab to fab. I mean, no one likes doing a required yearly training. But what if you could do it as your favorite movie character? Now, would you be interested? Different types of game elements can be used for different types of learners. I know it's hard to believe that some people don't want to play another round of Kahoot, but it's true. Point systems and leaderboards can be used to keep competitive learners revved up and engaged. Well, elements such as levels and badges will captivate your task oriented learners. Using elements that require participation or task will bring in your tactile learners. When you identify what excites and clicks with your audience, you can easily integrate these elements to motivate them. Story telling and themes can also be powerful tools in gamifying your training. Remember when you thought about completing a training as your favorite movie character? That's Game Element. Carrying a story theme throughout an entire training will keep your learners hooked while having a bit of fun. I participated in a training where I got to be my favorite superhero and we all work together to save the day. Be creative and know your audience. The sky's the limit when it comes to integrating stories or themes into training activities. I know you just learned a lot of different game elements that can be integrated into your training activities. I encourage you to begin with what feels comfortable and is maybe one of your favorites. If you're committed and bring the energy they will to.
