Using the alumni tool to find easy connections
- [Instructor] One of the easiest ways to find people to connect with on LinkedIn is by using the alumni tool. This shows you people who went to the same school as you, making it more likely that they'll accept your connection request. To get started, go to the search bar and type in the name of your school. From here, you can click on the school to go to their LinkedIn page. Once on their LinkedIn page, you'll see these different tabs. I want to go to the far right tab here and click on alumni, and this brings up the alumni page. Now, down below I can filter by where people live, where they work, what they do, what they're skilled at, what they study, and so on. So for example, if I'm looking to work in marketing, I could go back here to what they do and scroll down to see more. Now, here I see marketing and I can go ahead and click on that, and now it will refine those stats. So we have 11,223 alumni that are in marketing. Now here I could search for keywords. I could also go down here and type in years. If I know that I wanted people who attended here in 1998 to 2025, let's say 2005, I'll hit enter. And now it shows me the alumni from that time period, shows me where they work, where they live, and so on. Now, if I go back to the alumni page and type in here something like Microsoft, if I'm looking for a specific company, when I do that where they work, I can see that there are 604 alumni from the University of Madison that work or worked at Microsoft. I'll click here and it allows me to filter them more. Now, when I scroll to the bottom though, here's where I'll see those people and I can go ahead and click on their profile and decide if I want to send a connection request. A shared school or background could be a great conversation starter, and the alumni tool gives you a simple way to build your network with people who are more likely to say yes.
