Activating your LinkedIn network for job leads
- [Narrator] We've taken a brief look at how to start networking on LinkedIn, and now that you've started building connections, it might be time to activate your network. Most people don't post about their job search because it feels uncomfortable or vulnerable, but the truth is your next opportunity could come from someone you already know. A former coworker might know of a job opening. A classmate might work at a company that's hiring, or a connection might be willing to refer you, but they won't know unless you say something. Start simple. You can message a few trusted contacts. Right now for Nick, I'm going to click on his connections, and then for Sharon Wu, one of his connections, I'm going to click on Message. Here, you can see a message that Nick just sent out. "Hello Sharon, I'm currently looking for roles "as a Software Engineer. "If you hear of anything that might be a good fit, "I'd appreciate it if you'd keep me in mind! "I hope all is well." So, just very nice, very concise, and letting her know that he's looking for a position. Now I'm going to navigate back to Nick's feed, and remember that in here you can also start a post. So, I could click in here and type something like, "I'm currently exploring roles in software engineering. "If you happen to know of any openings, "or are open to chatting, I'd love to connect." Now, you don't have to blast this out everywhere. Just a few personal messages or one thoughtful post can go a long way. It only takes one conversation or introduction to change everything, and your network can help more often than you think.
