The essentials of finance

- It turns out that we're all surrounded by finance. - Deciding what things to buy and what things not to buy. - Getting the money to buy the things that you've decided that you need. - And efficiently managing the resources that you have. - This is finance, what to buy, where to get the money to buy it, and how to manage it once you have it. As we learn about finance, we're going to look at the financial reports of Walmart. - [Kay] We're going to examine the operating cycle of Nike. - [Jim] We'll learn the secrets of the capital asset pricing model, the CAPM. - [Kay] And we'll talk about trading stocks and bonds. We'll look at the IPOs of Microsoft and Facebook. - [Jim] We'll learn what an investment bank is. - And we'll end with some basic principles of personal financial planning. - Hi. I'm Jim Stice.
