From the course: Finance for Non-Financial Managers

Don’t fear the numbers

- So what do you need to know to take this course? Well, there are no prerequisites for this course, all you need is a willing heart and willing mind. I confess that we will introduce you to a lot of new terms and concepts, but we'll keep it intuitive and we'll avoid launching off into too many acronyms and confusing inside jargon. You can do this. We'll bend your mind in ways that might not be comfortable bending, but that's okay. This'll be a little like exercise. When you first start out, it might hurt a little bit because you're working muscles that haven't been worked in a while. But eventually, your body gets used to the physical exercise. Well, the same is true here. We're going to work muscles in your brain that aren't used to being worked in this way. But that's okay, you'll get used to it. And you'll get a sense of accomplishment in knowing that numbers just aren't that scary. So, there are no prerequisites for this course. We will assume that you're curious and motivated, but that you don't have extensive experience with finance or accounting. However, once you complete this course, you may find that you'd like to try your hand at additional numbers courses, and we do have plenty of those available here in the LinkedIn library. But for now, sit back, relax, and learn about the power of numbers in business. As a quick disclaimer, the advice we provide in this course is general advice only. It has been prepared without taking into account your objectives, your financial situation, and your risk tolerance. This course is not intended to give investment advice, but instead is intended to communicate basic information to help learners understand the basics of finance and accounting. For investment advice, you should seek advice from your own trusted, independent financial advisor.
