- Can you identify some of the ways bias can creep into your decisions, at this point, I hope so. That knowledge will make these bias blocking tools more effective, as you've seen, criteria can shift due to bias sometimes without you being aware. Thus, the more you practice being clear and intentional with your use of criteria the better chance you'll have to block bias. The first step is to clarify the criteria. Ask this question before any assessment, formal or informal what are the criteria I'm using? If you don't know, then spend some time on this before you make your assessment. If you're making an assessment as a group, ask, Hey what are the criteria we're using? You may find that people turn to you for your good practices.
