Prototyping at a distance
- Throughout this course, I've been emphasizing the need to work as a whole team, building on the diverse experience of each participant. But when it comes to building your prototype interface remotely, I've seen that strategy cause some issues. When your group is all in the same room, it's easier for people with a user experience background to split their attention between teams and ensure that each group applies common interaction design principles to the prototype screens they're building. When you're remote, especially if you want a fast turnaround time, then the challenges of getting novices up to speed with digital design tools like Figma or Sketch, as well as interaction design principles can be overwhelming. Two solutions I found, are to split into smaller concurrent groups where people with interaction design skills drive the tool, and a couple of non-designers contribute to ideas or to lock the interaction…
