Eliminating filler words
- There's nothing worse than watching someone fumble through an interview or a speech saying, "Um, like, uh, so or basically," a million times. But here's the thing, you may not even know that you're doing it. This is why video comes in handy. If you're practicing for an interview, record yourself answering the questions and then watch it back. This is the only way to see if you're guilty of using filler words. Filler words do just that. They just fill the space and don't provide any value. They could show up anywhere in your sentences, in the middle, at the beginning or even at the end. Some people start all of their sentences with so or I think or basically. Others will go on and on at the end of a sentence, because they're unsure when to stop. Once you realize that you're using filler words, here's my best advice. Just stop talking. Yes, a brief pause when you feel yourself about to say, "Um," will start to train…
