- If you want to make a successful executive decision, 2 communicate the rationale for the decision 3 to the broader organization. 4 Lay out the context you're making the decision in. 5 Tell people what the decision was 6 and why it was made. 7 Explain the goals for making the decision. 8 Tell people how you're going to monitor execution. 9 And also that you're willing to make new decisions 10 as you get more information. 11 Perhaps even tell them what some of the 12 contingency plans are. 13 The better people understand why you made the decision, 14 the less they're going to second-guess it 15 and the more they're going to support it. 16 And their support is critical to reducing execution risks 17 of making the decision. 18 Their support helps you get the decision out 19 and execute it quickly because they're bought into it 20 and they're not going to be obstacles. 21 For example, at one company I worked for, 22 we did a…
