- Executive decisions don't always go well, 2 and people need to be held accountable 3 for the decisions they make. 4 This is hard to do for those long-term decisions. 5 It's important to have short-term 6 and medium-term metrics to be able to assess 7 how people are performing with those longer-term decisions. 8 Tie compensation directly to the decisions people make. 9 Incentives should relate to milestones and interim metrics, 10 because not holding people accountable 11 to those interim metrics 12 lets them make bad long-term decisions 13 without any consequences. 14 Be transparent with the organization when you take action 15 because somebody made a good or bad decision. 16 If someone is relieved of their role 17 because they made a decision-making mistake, 18 be courageous enough to say so. 19 Don't be mean, 20 but highlight that you have a culture of accountability. 21 One example I'm familiar with 22 was the COO was…
