Extracting and counting unique entries using the UNIQUE function
- [Instructor] In the early 2020s, Microsoft introduced a number of new functions, often categorized as dynamic array functions. And a number of them are in the lookup and reference category. One is called UNIQUE. We've got a big list over here in columns A through C. It's about 900 rows or so, actually 999 to be exact. We want a list of all of our different departments. We don't want the names to be repeated either. So a common use of UNIQUE is to say, "I've got a list here with lots of recurring entries. Just give me a list with every item that's listed there. Once, once and only once." So in cell E2, I'll type =UNIQUE and where's that array? Now this is not a table off to the right. We do see the same data as a table, so we'll show a couple different ways to do this. If I simply click column B, I'm going to get some answers with a little bit of extra information, but it's going to work quickly and easily. We're looking in column B, that's all we need. Enter.
