- [Instructor] If you can't use XLOOKUP, you can use the functions INDEX and MATCH in combination to perform similar functionality. Let's use INDEX and MATCH together to find out if the state of Arkansas is active or inactive in this column. The MATCH function will return the position of the required value, in this case where the state of Arkansas is from this range in column E. The lookup value is Arkansas, which is currently in cell I1. The lookup array is from column E, and our match type will be an exact match, so I'll put a zero in. In this case, Arkansas is in place four from this range from column E. The INDEX function will return a specific value at a specific position, so now we can find out what's in place four in the status column. Let's put these together and use INDEX to return the value at this location that MATCH returned. Our array this time is from column F.
