The long tail and the 80/20 rule
- [Instructor] Have you heard people talking about the long tail, or the 80/20 rule? We're going to see what that means using real data in Excel. So this is an export from the Google keyword planner, in the travel industry. And you can see we have a keyword, cheap flights, which gets pretty much all the traffic, right, over four million searches a month for that keyword. There's also keywords like, flights. And then as we go down, each keyword gets less traffic. And as we get closer to the bottom, this is what we call long tail traffic. And the reason why we call it long tail traffic, you'll be able to see when we create a chart, is if we just press control shift down, or command shift down, and then insert, then we're going to do this as a bar chart, We can see why they call it long tail, right? So there's a few keywords, like, cheap flights, that generate most of the traffic, and then we have it drop off really, really…
