Forecasting user retention over time
- [Narrator] Say you needed to forecast how many users you'd have by the end of the year. Well, it's not enough just to tally up the number of users 'cause what you really care about is active users and some people will stop using the product. So this is how you forecast actual active usage. We're going to create a cohort analysis. And this cohort analysis is going to tell us, you know not just how many users we acquired, but how many people will still be using us when we get to December. Here we have January, February, March, April and so on along the top, how much we spent in those months and then how many people we acquired. And these forward-looking numbers. This is based on our plan. So in order to work out how many people from January will still be around in February, we need to figure out how many of them will have churned.
