The INDEX MATCH vs. VLOOKUP controversy
- Well, the INDEX MATCH people are at it again. Somebody posted on LinkedIn, they want everybody to post their favorite Excel functions, and it doesn't take long for the INDEX MATCH people to show up and derail the fun. I need to let you know about this controversy and let you know that there's a group of people that think VLOOKUP is the devil and should not be used or even taught to beginners. Now, I have shown you VLOOKUP, how it works, where its weaknesses are, and I've shown you INDEX MATCH. Now you choose what works for you. Also, this controversy always pops up outside of any context. It doesn't address what you're trying to accomplish, what your skill level is, and it doesn't integrate into the conversation that XLOOKUP exists, XMATCH exists, the joins in Power Query exist.
