- Let's take a look at the basics of cropping in Photoshop. I'll choose my crop tool. And that puts a cropping rectangle around my image. One of the most important decisions I can make regarding cropping, is whether or not I am going to delete the cropped pixels or retain them. So I've mentioned a couple of times or more than a couple of times, non-destructive editing. If we want to be non-destructive then we do not delete the cropped pixels. But of course there's no point in retaining information that we absolutely have no intention of using. So this is a judgment call that will vary according to the image. In this case, I'm going to leave that deselected. I can choose to make my crop according to a specific aspect ratio, or a specific size and resolution.
