Building a creative context
- Understanding personal creativity is first about understanding yourself, but it's also about understanding the environment around you. To the extent you have control over some of the things around you, it's vital to exercise that control. Let's start with the interactions you have with others at work. Your goal is to maximize your experience of positivity, while avoiding or reducing unproductive negativity. In general, positive emotions feed creativity, so we wish to experience them and protect them. Okay, back to your interactions with others. Whether a particular interaction is unavoidable or discretionary, choose not to contribute in negative discussions or behaviors. So if you hear a conversation that is problematically critical or people engage in unproductive rumors, don't take part.
