- No matter how skilled you are, relationships will be increasingly important to your career, especially as you climb the ladder. Unfortunately, many realize this too late. With the average job tenure lasting about four years, you'll want to consistently invest in cultivating your brand and network. Here are strategies that'll help live a likable mindset to ensure opportunities continue to flow your way. Be responsive. Responsiveness drives likability. Strive to provide a response within 24 hours even if you don't have an answer yet. Just an update that states you're working on it can go a long way in creating peace of mind for others. No dead ends. If you can't help or your department isn't the right one to contact, strive to offer at least one step.
