National Labor Relations Act (NLRA)

- [Instructor] In 1935, the National Labor Relations Act, or NLRA, made it clear that it's the policy of the United States to encourage collective bargaining by protecting workers' full freedom of association. The NLRA protects workplace democracy by providing employees at private sector workplaces the fundamental right to seek better working conditions and designation of representation without fear of retaliation. The National Labor Relations Board, or NLRB, enforces the National Labor Relations Act and is primarily concerned with protecting union employees and employee organizing efforts. According to the NLRB, it protects the right of private sector employees to join together with or without a union to improve their wages and working conditions. The NLRB says if employees are fired, suspended, or otherwise penalized for taking part in protected group activity, the National Labor Relations Board will fight to restore what was unlawfully taken away.
