Learning to self-regulate in a challenging industry

Think of self-regulation as your ability to manage your emotions. This includes managing circumstances that follow certain emotions, that is, your reactions or behavior. What if, as a first-time leader, you're told you need to work on your executive presence? That may sting. Executive presence in particular can take time to perfect, so depending on your situation, you may hear that feedback more than once. However, over time you've learned to reflect, so receiving that feedback is something you know to be true already. This is why self-awareness is the start to self-regulation. When you know how a particular situation might affect you, you can better prepare for the natural responses you may experience. Almost every role in the cybersecurity industry is stressful and will invoke a variety of emotions on a daily basis. The perfect example is the Security Operations Center, or SOC analyst.
