- [Narrator] For many, a day doesn't officially begin until they've had their first cup of coffee, a multi-billion dollar global business that begins on a farm and ends in your cup. Let's learn a little bit about coffee via statistics. Coffee is grown on a tree. The coffee bean is actually a fruit, coffee cherries. The trees are usually pruned to about eight feet. Each tree produces only about 1.5 pounds of coffee per year. Consider that in 2019, Starbucks alone used 433 million pounds of coffee. That's 433 million coffee trees in the world, just for Starbucks. That doesn't include coffee beans bought by huge companies, like Duncan and Nestle. So, growing new trees annually is always a requirement. Let's take a look at some reasons why. Coffee consumption not only increases as population increases, in the last 20 years, coffee drinkers have increased their personal coffee consumption by an average of 1% per year. Also…
