Managing views and perspectives

- [Instructor] We've talked about views and perspectives a little bit before, but I want to go into some more detail here. We've talked about how we can hide different views, like the Java doc for example, I can just click on the X and hide it. What we didn't talk about is you can actually move a view to another area of the screen. So if I want to move this Declaration area somewhere else, I can click and drag it here to the middle of the screen or have it be paired with one of these other views, like the Task List, et cetera. You could also get your application in a weird state by doing this. Maybe it's desirable, maybe it's undesirable. Let's say you've gotten changes that you want to save for later. One thing you can do is, in the Window menu, go to Perspective, and then you can choose Save Perspective As. When you click this, you can give your perspective a certain name like this. So I can say save the Java Todd perspective. And if I look at my perspective by hovering over at the top right, that's what it shows for me. And if I ever want to go back to that exact one or any other one, I can close windows and kind of mess it up a little bit like so, and then I can go back to Window, Perspective, and then choose Reset Perspective. That resets the perspective to what it was when I created it. So you'll notice that everything goes back to exactly where it was. Now, what I'm going to do is go under Window, Perspective, and then I'm going to open the Java perspective. So I'll go to Other, and then I'll hit Java default, and that will go back there. So we can save perspectives, we can restore perspectives in case we get everything out of whack, go back to a base, and now I have these two Java perspectives showing, and that might be a little bit confusing. So the custom one that I created, I'm going to right-click and then choose Close. And that way my screen's not cluttered up with confusing icons. So by using the Window menu, you can manage, save, and restore your perspectives.
