- You're doing great. Let's move on to some more advanced jazz fills. And we're gonna incorporate a lot of new concepts, so let's get started. Art Blakey incorporates some polyrhythms into a fill that he plays in a song called In Walked Bud. And polyrhythm is just a fancy way of saying that there's one grouping of notes played over a different grouping of notes. So there's three over two polyrhythms, are pretty common ones, and that means, for every two notes played on one sound source, there's three notes played with a different sound source. So a three over two polyrhythm would sound like this. (hands clap rhythmically and hi-hat sounds) My hands clapped three times for every two times that the hi-hat made a sound. So let's play the fill, and the ride cymbal is gonna play quarter notes and the snare drum is gonna play quarter note triplets.
