A digital transformation is a business strategy whereby we attempt to change, upgrade and extend our organization's business models and technologies. So why do we want to do this? Let's find out and take a look at how our approach to digital transformation has changed with AI. An organization will undergo a digital transformation with two primary objectives in mind. To gain value by significantly improving what it has been doing. To gain value by introducing new things it can do. We look to achieve these objectives by leveraging a specific set of new technology innovations and practices to transform our business through enhanced automation and modern data science. This type of transformation goes well beyond the technology and will usually change an organization's culture, its operations, and the roles of its human workers. But let's get back to the technology. Historically, digital transformations relied on machine learning and AI primarily to provide analytical insights to help with human decision making. This was the classic role of predictive AI, and one that was vital to understanding exactly what a digital transformation should accomplish. This still remains a critical part of a digital transformation strategy today. However, the role of AI has increased significantly, in part because of how rapidly AI has matured to be able to offer so many new capabilities, but also because IT and business communities have become more adept with AI technology, and the skill sets to do more with AI have evolved a great deal as well. In this course, we'll be establishing what digital transformation is and is not, and we'll be exploring how and where both generative AI and predictive AI can now play a part in realizing digital transformation goals. As we'll discover, AI has changed the complexion of digital transformation tremendously. It can help us plan and run a digital transformation effort, while also being part of the technology solutions being built and delivered as part of this effort. The increased role and prominence assumed by AI has led to a new, more contemporary form of digital transformation that will be vital for business to understand in order to remain competitive and to get the most out of their investment.
