that drawing improves design. An illustrative design is all about drawing out your ideas before you build them digitally and the place to start is with thumbnail sketches. But that begs the question, "What are thumbnail sketches?" They're nothing more than small thumbnail-size rough drawings in working out my ideas. This is one again, capturing the essence of what I want to do. None of these are perfected drawings, but they're going to guide my thinking, and lead to the final artwork. Now, the first thing I'll bring up is I said thumbnail-size. That term comes from the fact that it's to not over focus on any one idea, not to get overly detailed with your drawing. Capture the essence of it, move onto the next one so that you can create many ideas and then from those, you can glean the best, and those are the ones you want to move forward on, but it does come from the idea that it's thumbnail size.
