- "I see no hope for the future of our people "if they are dependent on the frivolous youth of today." Does this sentiment sound familiar? It should, because this attitude and the practice of dissing young people has been around for years, literally thousands of years. That particular quote is from Hesiod, the Greek poet and philosopher from 750 BC. So for the last 2,700 years there's been some form of an exasperated kids these days. On the other end of this equation ageism, the discrimination and harmful stereotypes held about older people, is also widespread and actually on the rise in the workplace.
