Creating a just ask culture

- It's actually surprised me and really comes as something of a jolt of awareness that in our design work for optimum learning experiences, we generally pay no attention to affective influences on learning as we've been saying. But as we've seen, they're very important influences. And yet we typically fail to even ask learners how they're feeling, especially in e-learning where we could do something about it. When we think of individualization, we usually think of such things as self-pacing, letting each learner take as much time as needed going at their own speed. And it's a good thing. Then there's content selection initiated by learners where they select the content of interest perhaps through a menu, algorithmically, where we advance when the student does sufficiently well, perhaps on a quiz, and reviewing when the student does poorly as a measure of capability.
