- Writing a story, verifying characters and creating different branches through content can be a lot of work. It takes time to get everything just right. So you might be asking yourself, why should we spend time using branching scenarios for learning? There are a number of reasons why branching scenarios are such effective tools for learning. Scenario-based learning forces the learner to become active. The learner must make a choice before they're able to move through the scenario. The learner can't passively sit back and daydream or wait until an answer is provided. They must be an active participant and commit to a decision. Once they commit, the downstream impact of their decisions becomes evident. Even though the situation in which the learners find themselves is realistic because it is a scenario, time can be accelerated or slowed down.
