- At its heart, scenario-based learning is a simulated conversation. In order to move the conversation forward, fulfill the learning goal, and maintain the interest of the learner, it needs to include characters whom the learner interacts. When creating characters, there are a number of considerations to keep in mind. The first consideration may seem kind of obvious, but it's important to note that the characters are not fully fleshed out people. You, as the designer, don't have time to create a multifaceted, multilayered character. You're not writing a screenplay. You're merely creating a scenario and learners don't have time for clever dialogue and interactions establishing a complex, nuanced backstory before any learning occurs. Instead, your character should only have one or two dimensions. Think about the representative traits, attributes, and behaviors of people the learner would encounter in the actual situation.…
