- [Instructor] This video covers some terms about data. I'm going to lay out some data-related vocabulary that I'm going to use throughout these two foundation courses. I'll be using familiar terms, but I want to make sure you understand exactly how I am using them. First, I'm going to talk about how I classify a data set as study data or production data. When I say study data, I'm referring to data that was collected as part of a study. In other words, the data didn't exist before the study. It got there because some researchers developed a hypothesis and a study protocol and then collected the data set for a study. This is pretty typical for drug company clinical trials, for example. Next, we have production data. When I use this term, I mean data not collected as part of a preplanned study, but instead data collected in databases as part of a business process.
