Exploring the NIST Cybersecurity Framework
- [Instructor] The NIST Cybersecurity Framework helps organizations manage and reduce cybersecurity risk. NIST CSF was originally intended for US critical infrastructure, but is now widely adopted globally by private organizations and any organization wishing to improve its cybersecurity posture. The reason why NIST CSF is preferred by organizations is that it offers common language and a systematic approach to manage cyber risk, identifies areas where existing process can be improved, and places where new process can be implemented. The framework is outcome driven and does not mandate how those outcomes are achieved. The framework is organized into six key functions, Govern, Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. The functions enable organizations to approach cybersecurity holistically and encourage risk management decisions.
