- You've taken that training or been to that class where you scratch your head and say, "This isn't really what I expected." Or worse, someone in the training that you developed takes you aside and says, "I have to leave. "I thought we were going to cover something else "and this is a waste of my time." Ouch. To create successful training, you've got to set proper expectations on the number of different levels. The first is on the amount of content or information you're planning to cover. Inevitably, someone will come to you and ask to add just one more thing to the training. Or a person helping you out with content insists that in order for someone to properly sell your company's product, they have to know the entire history of the industry from beginning to present day. Clearly define the scope of your instruction. Write it down in the form of an outline and if it doesn't fit in the outline, save it for another…
