Optimizing a spanning tree topology
In this lesson, I'm going to talk about how the Spanning Tree Protocol's behavior can be modified using a variety of different features. We're going to talk about BPU Guard, BPU Filter, Spanning Tree Port Fast, along with a batch of other things. So to start with, there could be delays with users with Spanning Tree because an access port needs to cycle through the blocking, listening, and learning phases when we talk about the traditional 802.1d cycle. So if we take the user in the screen, she powers on her PC, it's going to start off at a blocking phase and eventually it's going to transition into the listening phase and then the learning phase. And this could take up to 30 seconds for it to process. And so this could frustrate users as they're gonna perceive the network as possibly being slow. And that doesn't make things happy. And you know, it's just one of those things where if you can avoid a phone call from your user base, why not do that? There's other reasons for why you…
