Layer 2 forwarding essentials
So, what I want to do is let's talk about how the actual traffic is forwarded from a layer 2 perspective. Now I don't want to talk about what happens at the host level because we talked about that earlier. What I want to do is talk about how traffic is forwarded from a network device level. So let's take a look at PCA, where PCA is going to forward some traffic towards PCB. Now to start off with, in our topology, we'll have a network hub, which is where I first got started with the networking industry, right? Was we use these network hubs. And you'll notice that when the packet comes in from PCA, it actually is leaves out of all ports towards PCB, PCC, and PCD. And what this actually results in is we have one single collision domain. And what that means is PCC and PCD is going to receive that same traffic that PCA meant to only go to PCB. So this also diminishes the effectiveness of the network, because PCC and PCD have to wait until the light is not longer being used or there's no…
