Deploying layer 2 switching for Cisco networks: Inroduction
Hello, and welcome to Deploying Layer 2 Switching for Cisco Networks video course. Well, back in my day when I first got into networking, there's two types of devices I primarily touched. There is routers, and then we had switches. Well, that's what we're going to focus on in this video course, is switches. So we're going to go through and talk through and explain how a PC will be able to communicate with another PC, whether it's a personal laptop to a server from a layer 2 perspective in this video course. Now, my name is Brett Edgeworth and I'm the instructor. I have two CCIEs, I've written multiple Cisco Press books, and presented Cisco Live globally on a variety of topics. Now, in this video course, we're going to talk about how a PC can communicate with another PC using a network device and how we can actually segregate it so that maybe we have them talk to the same switch but they can't actually see each other's traffic or maybe you do want it switch, or how we can connect that to another switch because we have not enough ports on the first switch. How do we securely allow that communication to occur? Now when we start to add in multiple network devices we can have problems with forwarding loops that's what we'll talk about the spanning tree protocol and so we'll walk through all this in the video course to give you the knowledge so that you know how large enterprises can connect multiple switches together without creating any form of forwarding loop. Now, I'm going to use a wide variety of techniques. I'm going to use a light board. I'm going to draw on slides. I'm going to do some configuration on some switches. All of this to give you an understanding as far as how a switch works and operates. And then we're going to talk about how we actually connect in multiple switches using multiple links, using what we call a port channel, which is something that would be very valuable to know about, as well as some of the concepts we use within troubleshooting. So by the time that this course is done, you'll have the knowledge that you know on how to design, deploy, and operate a layer two switching environment for Cisco networks. So I hope you're excited. Let's get started.
