- As an executive coach, I have worked with leaders at all levels of seniority, and one common challenge for all of them is delegation. Delegation is hard enough, but when you aren't physically in the same space, it's exponentially harder. So let's talk about some of the biggest challenges so you can understand them and begin to think about how to navigate around them. Number one, it's just harder to get to know each other when you're not in the same place. You don't run into each other grabbing a coffee, there's no opportunity to casually fall into a conversation about sports or the book you're reading, and it's tough to go to lunch together. Those are the organic connections that arise naturally when you're in the same office, and they help build rapport and trust, which are important elements of successful delegation.
