- Positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes life most worth living. It examines our thoughts, feelings and behaviors with a focus on our superpowers instead of our deficiencies. In my leadership coaching practice, I often create exercises influenced by positive psychology. These exercises encourage leaders to consider business culture as something we build, not fix. As one of my mentors, Howard Ross once told me, "When we encourage people to fix something, it feels as if there's a big problem that requires our attention." It's no wonder we feel energetically drained. Rather, he encourages the idea of building something that has never existed before. This reframe inspires us. It invites us to contribute by playing our role to create something that has never existed, something that is much bigger than any one of us.
