Never underestimate the impact people have on your career

- I want to share an aha moment I had that I hope will help you build better relationships with your senior leaders in your organization. Never underestimate the power the executive can have on your career. Let's consider the example earlier of Cecilia and her 70 snow globes. It didn't matter how we felt about the snow globes or if we liked or disliked them, what mattered was using them as a tool for chit chat to build trust with Cecilia. If we discounted Cecilia because of the decorations in her office, we may have underestimated the impact that Cecilia had on the organization and potentially on our career. In this case, Cecilia was in every meeting about someone's promotion or internal mobility. It is important to always treat everyone with respect and to remain curious about what the other person is interested in outside of work.
