Data stewardship responsibilities
- [Instructor] Earlier, I summed up the responsibilities of a data steward as taking care of the organization's data. Now, that's a reasonable description of the role, but it's also pretty high level. What does it actually mean to take care of the organization's data? Well, data stewardship responsibilities may vary from organization to organization, but we can summarize them as fitting into four general categories: data quality, data security, data privacy, and regulatory compliance. Data quality ensures that the organization has accurate, relevant, and timely data to meet its business objectives. Managing data quality requires developing clear data definitions; monitoring data consistency, accuracy, and completeness; validating data quality on an ongoing basis; and promoting data reuse.
