- Now that you understand the basics of data, it's time to make the most of it. You don't need to get a PhD in mathematics or be a chief data officer for data to be valuable to you, but you do need three things. You need to have a goal, you need to have curiosity, and you need to have the capacity to work with a team. First up is the goal. What are you trying to accomplish? What problem are you trying to solve? What are your organization's goals? What are your personal goals? When you have something you're trying to achieve, you'll know which data can help you and in what way. Next comes curiosity. Curiosity is the first element of intelligence. Curiosity means being willing to show what you don't know. You're willing to ask a lot of questions. Can you explain this to me? Can you help me understand? How is this important? How might this information relate to that information? What if we looked at it over a longer period of time? Knowledge is all about what you know. Intelligence is…
