Analog input modes

- [Instructor] Many DAQ devices support multiple analog input modes, which allow you to measure different types of signal sources. Before connecting wires to the DAQ device and configuring input channels, you first need to determine whether the signal you intend to measure is a grounded or ground-referenced source, or if it's a floating, non-referenced source. Voltages in a grounded signal source are referenced to the building's ground system. Any device that plugs into a wall outlet or some other type of building power system, and does not explicitly have isolation, and float it's output signal, should usually be considered a grounded signal source. A floating signal source, on the other hand, is not tied to an absolute reference point, like the building or earth ground. It has its own isolated reference for the voltages it produces.
