What is social engineering?
- [Narrator] In the last video, I talked about how anyone can be a human hacker. You may ask yourself, "Why is social engineering a topic for discussion? "It's not news that social engineering attacks "plague enterprises worldwide." According to Proofpoint's "2023 State of the Phish Report," 84% of people surveyed stated they experienced phishing attacks in 2022. Social engineering is a tool that uses the knowledge of human behavior to deceive and manipulate people. This is done by disclosing information or granting access to something they should not have access to. Social engineering affects us all, even if we don't realize it. Other examples of social engineering attacks include a phishing email pretending to be from Microsoft that warns you of unusual sign-in activity, scam calls telling you that your social security card has been suspended or unauthorized individuals entering into office spaces.
