- The earliest phishing email I can remember was from a Nigerian prince. The email said something along the lines of, "Hey, I've got this large amount of money that I need to claim but I'm running into an issue and need your help." Being of Nigerian descent myself, I found it odd that a prince was emailing me of all people to help him out of a bind. Not only did I not have any money to give, but I always had an impression that kings and princes were a thing of the past in Nigeria. I delete the message and hope the Nigerian prince figured out what they were going to do about their inheritance. However, a lot of people don't know the ins and outs of Nigerian government, and I'm sure that many people were falling for this scam. I continued to see these emails long after the first one.
