- I'm sure every software programmer on Earth would love to say that they write flawless code with no security holes. But the truth is software programmers are human and they make mistakes, regularly. Not to worry though, they also release changes to that code on a frequent basis. These changes are called patches. They fix or patch any holes found since the last release and add features that were either not fully developed previously or are improvements upon the software. Not patching systems on the company network is like having one pair of rain boots that have holes in them. Sure, it doesn't always rain, but when it does and you use those boots, you won't be protected from soggy socks.
