- A fundamental concept that's key to understanding computer security is its software changes over time. Consider an organization that is building a software program. Say it's a smartphone app. While the software is still being developed, the organization might publish a press release that announces when the software will be available for general use. Up until that date, the product and engineering teams are working hard to ensure that software bugs are eliminated. As the deadline approaches, decisions need to be made about what is going to be completed before the release date and what will need to wait until afterwards. The release date arrives and the software ships. There are still a few or maybe a few dozen bugs that didn't get fixed. These bugs will be addressed in the next software update.
