- So Becky, this course is about communication, and that's a subject close to my heart. I wrote a newspaper column for 20 years where every week, I had to make an argument, craft a strong, persuasive argument for readers. And I'm wondering, how does critical thinking and communication relate to making an argument? - Fantastic. So, so many people think that an argument is something to avoid. And you know, from this column that you, and your work, that an argument can also be a thing of beauty and particularly, a tool for persuasion. Critical thinking is slightly different because it has a different goal than persuasion. I love persuasion too, but critical thinking has a goal where the north star is accuracy. So you're trying to get to answer the question, "How can I find out if this is really true?" Not, "How can I convince the person to agree with me?"
